My PowerPoint slides aren't generating – what should I do?

When you upload a .pptx file to the Documents library, Pickit automatically analyzes the presentation and prepares its individual slides for preview and insertion. In most cases, this happens automatically. However, some presentations may take considerably longer to process or fail to generate.

  • The presentation is large or contains complex content

The most common reason for slides taking a long time to generate is that the PowerPoint file is particularly large or complex.

As a general guideline, presentations over 100 MB can be considered large and may take longer to process. However, file size isn't the only factor. A presentation with many slides or complex embedded content can also require significantly more processing.

Content that may increase processing time includes:

  • Embedded videos
  • 3D objects
  • Large or high-resolution images
  • A large number of slides
  • Multiple or complex objects within individual slides

If your presentation contains a lot of this type of content, allow some additional time for Pickit to finish processing the file.

  • Check for comments in your slides

Comments or notes in PowerPoint slides can cause slide generation to fail.

If your presentation contains comments, remove them from the PowerPoint file, save the presentation, and upload the updated .pptx file to Pickit.

  • Try reanalyzing the presentation

If the presentation has been uploaded successfully but the slides haven't finished generating, you can ask Pickit to analyze them again.

  1. Open the .pptx file in the Documents library.
  2. Select Settings (the cog-wheel icon) from the right-side menu.
  3. Go to Slides.
  4. Select Reanalyze slides.

Pickit will look through the PowerPoint again and prepare the individual slides for preview and insertion. Given the factors stated in this article, it can take time for processing to finish.

  • Check the PowerPoint file type

Slide generation is only supported for .pptx files.

Other PowerPoint formats, such as .potx, aren't supported for individual slide generation. If you're working with another PowerPoint file type, save or export it as a .pptx file before uploading it to Pickit.
