Pickit has disappeared from the PowerPoint ribbon – how to bring it back

Overview

The Pickit icon disappearing from your PowerPoint ribbon is a common problem. The good news is that Pickit is almost always still installed on your computer. It's just been disabled or hidden, and can be brought back in a few steps.

There are four reasons this typically happens. Find the one that matches your situation below.

Cause 1: Office performed an update and disabled the add-in

This is the most common cause. When Microsoft Office updates itself, it sometimes disables third-party add-ins as a precaution – including Pickit. The add-in is still there, it just needs to be re-enabled.

How to fix it:

  1. Open PowerPoint and go to the Home tab in the top ribbon.
  2. Click Add-ins (or My Add-ins).
  3. In the window that opens, look for Pickit under Admin Managed or My Add-ins.
  4. Click on Pickit and select Add.
  5. Pickit should now reappear in your ribbon. If it doesn't, restart PowerPoint and check again.
If you don't see Pickit in the list at all, your IT department may need to re-push the add-in to your device. See Cause 4 below.

Cause 2: The add-in has been disabled in Office settings

Office has a built-in mechanism that disables add-ins that crash or cause errors. Pickit may have been flagged this way.

How to fix it:

  1. In PowerPoint, go to File → Options → Add-ins.
  2. At the bottom of the window, next to Manage, select COM Add-ins from the dropdown and click Go.
  3. If Pickit is listed but unchecked, check the box next to it and click OK.
  4. Restart PowerPoint.

If Pickit is listed under Disabled Application Add-ins instead, select Disabled Items from the Manage dropdown, click Go, find Pickit in the list, click Enable, and restart PowerPoint.

Cause 3: Your IT department has restricted which add-ins can run

Many organisations have group policies that control which add-ins are allowed in Office. If your IT team recently updated these policies – or if Pickit hasn't been added to the approved list – the add-in icon won't appear even if the software is installed.

What to do:

You won't be able to fix this yourself. Contact your IT helpdesk and ask them to:

  • Confirm that the Pickit Office Add-in is included in your organisation's approved add-in list in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
  • Re-push the add-in to your device if it has been removed.

If IT confirms Pickit is approved and deployed, but it still doesn't appear, ask them to check whether the add-in is listed under Admin Managed in your Office Add-ins panel (Insert → Add-ins → Admin Managed). If it's there, adding it manually from that list should work.

Cause 4: The add-in needs to be re-added from the Microsoft Store

If none of the above applies — for example, you're setting up a new computer or Pickit was never centrally deployed by IT — you may need to add the add-in manually.

How to fix it:

  1. Open PowerPoint and go to Insert → Add-ins → Get Add-ins.
  2. Search for Pickit in the Office Add-ins store.
  3. Click Add and accept the terms.
  4. Sign in with your Microsoft account (use your work email if your organisation uses SSO).
  5. Pickit will appear in your ribbon.

Note: If your organisation uses centrally deployed add-ins (common in larger companies), you may not have permission to install add-ins yourself. In that case, contact your IT department and ask them to deploy Pickit via the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

Still not working?

Contact Pickit support and include:

  • Which version of Office and Windows/macOS you're using (File → Account → About PowerPoint)
  • A screenshot of what you see in Insert → Add-ins → Admin Managed
  • Whether your organisation deploys add-ins centrally via IT
